American Idol faced yet another scandal when
compromising pictures of contestant Antonella Barba appeared on
the internet. This is not a new situation for American
Idol. Season 2 finalist Frenchie Davis was thrown off
the show after topless photos of her were posted on a porn Web
site. However, that won't be the case this time.
After several days of silence American Idol producer
Nigel Lythgoe revealed that the show had decided not to
disqualify Ms. Barba from the smash-hit Fox reality competition.
"These people haven't done anything illegal; that's their
private life," Idol judge Simon Cowell told USA
Today.
Amanda Coluccio, Barba's best friend who also made it to American
Idol 6's Hollywood round but failed to make the season's Top
24 semifinalists cut, told her local The Star-Ledger newspaper
that only some of the photos that have emerged online are
actually of Barba. According to Coluccio, the "tamer
shots" -- including an American Beauty tribute
photo that features a naked Barba covered by rose petals -- are
legitimate and were taken as part of a calendar that she gave
her boyfriend of several years but she is certain that the
"lewdest" - specifically the ones that allegedly show
Barba performing a sex act - aren't of Barba.
March 02: Hanging On
Randy said her song was "way
too big for her." Paula said something incomprehensible.
Simon said she was "worse than last week." But luckily
for Antonella Barba, America disagreed.
After a difficult week in which
racy pictures of her were leaked on to the Internet, and her
performance of Céline Dion's "Because You Loved Me"
was poorly received by the judges, Barba still managed to land a
spot among the top 16 contestants on American Idol.
The New Jersey native, who has
been praised more for her looks than her vocals this season, may
well owe a large portion of her continued success to the Website
votefortheworst.com, which has selected her as its female
contestant of choice.
March 09: Gone
Despite her racy photos, Antonella Barba's American Idol
dreams were flushed away. However, while her singing career
might of reached an end, we may still get to see her in a better
light.
Simon Cowell may have put it best, "You've gone as far as
you go, Antonella, I don't think your voice is going to get any
better." And apparently the American public agreed by
sending her packing.
However, her exposure on the show (and off the show!) has
apparently opened up new roads for our troubled songstress. Girls
Gone Wild has offered the curvaceous beauty $250,000 to host
an upcoming release of a new video from the company. Not
to be outdone, the adult film producer Sugar DVD offered her
$500,000 to be the company's new spokes model. One has to
wonder...will Playboy be offering her any cash soon? Hopefully
so, but in the meantime we can continue to dream! |
